!!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! will do just fine. To hell with speed or handling or being interesting. I want reliable, comfortable, efficient, and with a pleasant looking light-colored interior that’s well screwed-together and full of wood and leather.

What happened? Why would you ever subject yourself to this kind of driving experience when you could just get a sports car?

Because I am a college student who parks his car outside in a dorm parking lot, and uses it to run around with friends and drive on the interstate 40 minutes round trip to work and 4 hours round trip home, and I want a car that is comfortable and cheap to run but without the depressing interior of, say, a mid-00s Buick.

Yup, it’s an often overlooked spec but quite good value.

Don’t tell anybody but I kinda like Avalons. If I needed a car to eat up a bunch of hwy miles it would be high on my list.

Surprisingly comfortable while feeling not as barge-like as a Buick. Did you consider a Lexus ES? The depreciation might be more in your favor.

I’d try to fine the next body style above this one. Nothing wrong with this one but I really like the 2011 12ish ones with the LED tail lights

My sister has an Avalon of this gen and the interior is just a nice place to be. No idea how it drives or anything but definitely comfortable.

Well, that should do it. Mu mom had the similar setup in the 60s. Her dad got her a nice, big, safe Olds sedan to take to college in Vermont. She groaned about the uncoolness, but when it came down to it, it never failed her, and it was perfect for taking her friends and ski equipment to Stowe on the weekend.

This is one of my top favorite rental vehicles of all time. It’s big. It’s comfortable. It’s got decent power. And honestly, you would be surprised at how composed it can be in the twisties.
I found this to be much more competent at speed along Angeles Crest highway than the V6 Mustang I had rented on a previous trip.

THAT’S MY CAR!!! Hence, the screen name. However mine is an XLS trim, as opposed to the limited which you are looking at. Lemme know if you have any questions as well.

You just bought the wrong Lex. I took some liberties with the Avalon’s $8k price.

I know my current posting about mine involves nothing beyond my dog, aesthetics, etc., but I assure you it has been an amazing pleasure for me to pilot. Prices aren’t too nuts either. Plenty of lower mileage examples out there.

Its not bad. But your friends will crack jokes about it being an old man car etc... but I have heated seats and reclining rear seats so when they sit back there the jokes end. It rides nice its pretty quiet, but you do get wind noise near the A and B pillars. Tires pricing is dependent on the size rim you get, I got the XLS trim so my rims are 17 which I actually prefer in design. I ABSOLUTELY HATE THE LIP, that some of them come with, mine doesn’t have it, thank goodness.
Gas mileage is very tricky. On the highway it’ll get 21-29 mpg depending on speed and stuff, but in the city that thing will drop, I once got 11 mpg driving through Atlanta one day. The tank is kinda small compared to the actual vehicle size on a full tank you get like 345ish miles. The A/c system is good, mine has the JBL sound system so it sounds good. Which we as youths appreciate, I mean its a good car all around I tinted my windows in July and it has definitely helped the cars overall appearance which in turn helped the cars cabin cool down exponentially. Also because its so big in the back you can have fun back there ;). lemme know if you have anymore specific questions.

While I personally think the avalon is a bit overpriced. Theres something to be said about a solid, comfy, dependable daily. Mine is a late 90s E320 with 300k on the clock and heated seats.
It lets your fun car only have to worry about being fun. And even if you havent hit two car ownership, you can autocross anything. I have a friend that used to take his cloud car out.
Enjoy the luxury and peace of mind.

What happened to the LX?
Also, these are very nice cars! Maybe it’s because of where I’m from, but 2000-2013 Impalas are the common old person car.

It’s up for sale. I love the car, but I’m a college student who mostly drives short errands or on the highway, and I need something much less expensive to run.

Oh yes, I understand. I’m in college, too, and I maybe put 50 miles a week on my car (40 of that is my weekly trip to the Ingles and back). However, if you’re trying to be more economical, have you thought about a loaded up small car, or even a midsized sedan like a Camry? It’ll be more fuel efficient and you can get options like a backup camera possibly.

I might. I’m kind of trying to compromise, I still want something fairly large. If I did a car that size I’d get an Accord or a Mazda6 or possibly even a Saturn Aura.

Yeah, the Aura seems like the best choice; they’re fairly reliable and they’re pretty cheap. The one you posted was nice and had pretty much everything except a backup camera.
